Traditional Music Workshops for children who attend Cowie and St Margaret’s Primary Schools
Our Cowie Trad workshops are open to children from P4 – P7 who attend school in Cowie. They are based in Cowie Primary School and St Margaret’s Primary School one day each week. The workshops are led by Daniel Thorpe and a team of professional traditional musicians who are all excellent and inspiring music tutors.
In P4 children begin to learn in class the whistle and basic music notation with Daniel. In P5, children are invited to choose a second instrument – either the fiddle or guitar. They continue to learn the whistle in class and learn the fiddle or guitar in small instrument groups.
If children who are part of Cowie Trad would like to continue to play traditional music beyond school they can join the Tolbooth Trad workshops.
Children can also sign up to continue to learn the guitar or violin, or start a new instrument, though the Stirling Council Music Tuition Service. All lessons are free thanks to Scottish Government Funding.
These workshops are funded by the Youth Music Initiative.
